MODEM is all about collaboration. You may have noticed the box at the bottom of every page which has some text about Creative Commons. All music hosted in MODEM is licensed using a Creative Commons license which permits other people to use the music for their own purposes. By uploading your work to MODEM you are implicitly agreeing to it's use by others under the terms of the license. All the licenses insist that any work used gets credited in the new work.
We hope you want other people to use your work, and that's why you're here!
When you upload your music you have to license it using one of the four following licences:
You may only upload your own original works, or work that uses a compatible Creative Commons License or is licensed in such a way that it may become part of a work licensed with one of the above.
Sorry if this is confusing. Copyright is a difficult and complicated subject. To understand the issues better check out the Creative Commons website.
If in doubt - do not upload - users who repeatedly upload copyright material will be banned.
The share alike licenses (2 and 4) require that any work using the licensed work must use the same license. If you can't or won't do this, don't use the material.
